We have analyzed the best adult electric scooters available on the market today and reviewed several aspects of them. We compared electric scooters based on the following categories as they are the most commonly desired specs people look for:

-Best all-around adult electric scooters
-Best lightweight electric scooters for adults

-Best long-range electric scooters for adults
-Best all terrain & off-road electric scooters for adults

Electric scooters have been around for longer than one would think. At first, they were mostly tailored to children and it’s only in recent years that the trend of electric scooters for adults has seen a massive increase. Unlike hoverboards or Segways, electric scooters are here to stay. And it’s easy to understand why, considering their many benefits and upsides.

Many models are portable and easy to carry. They also tend to be quite fast yet simple to maneuver. Adult electric scooters are also an affordable, eco-friendly choice for modern people wanting to travel through inner cities and urban areas as effectively as possible.

However, these benefits do not apply to all electric scooters for adults. There are many different models to choose from. Each with its specific features uses and design purposes. People who are looking to buy one should keep several things in mind when looking for an electric scooter.

- What is the main purpose of the scooter?
- Will you use it primarily for commuting or leisure driving?
- The weight is important
- how often will you be carrying the scooter around?
- The range is another key factor, how far do you need it to go, and what is the battery life?
- Will you be going off-road or staying in urban environments?

Knowing the answers to these questions will help you narrow the search.

The best all-around electric scooter for adults will be a question of compromise. It is a matter of finding the best electric scooter that can tick the boxes you need ticked. Usually, that will mean finding one that can be used every day, without too much hassle, light enough to pick up and carry but not at the expense of a high-quality build. It will most likely need to be foldable and be able to recharge relatively quickly and also have a reasonably good mile range.

Performance can be an important factor if you live in a hillier area as that will require some high torque performance from your e-scooter that not all are capable of. The most popular options on the lightweight e-scooter market are the ones that in one or another way, can cover those areas, and have a proven track record as well as satisfied customers.

This great scooter was designed as an all-around adult multi-purpose budget electric scooter and also offer an option for those looking to step up from an entry-level electric scooter. It has a longer mile range than for example the Xiaomi M365, and has a 500W brushless hub motor with a peak power output of 800W that is perfectly comfortable going up 15% inclines and hills. The max speed is also a respectable 23 mph (37 kph).

And where it thrives is in an urban environment. The Horizon definitely has the specs for urban commuting. It’s somewhat heavier than its urban commuting counterparts but still only 40/42 lbs (18/19kg), which allows for carrying onto buses or trains easily enough.

Available in two different battery versions gives the option of a 20 or 25-mile range (32 or 40 km) hence the slight difference in weight. 5-6 hours to recharge A dual suspension system with a combination of an air-filled tire on the front and a solid on the rear is an interesting choice but makes sense. The risk of running a flat on the rear wheel is zero, and maintenance is also kept at a minimum. It all works very well in unison and handles the road in a balanced way. You never feel tired even after a long ride.

Rear drum and regen brake with a lever on the left side of the handlebar controls the regen brake at first by just pulling it slightly. Pull a bit harder and the rear drum brake is activated. Even though it is just below the "lightweight" scooter limit with its 40/42 lbs (18/19 kg), it folds into a very compact package. Folded dimensions are 38,6 x 7,1 x 14,6 inches (98 x 18 x 37 cm). Small enough to stow away in a corner of a coffee shop or on public transportation.

LCD display, LED lights, and very good overall build quality ensure a long life for this workhorse and some experts consider it the best budget electric scooter for everyday use.

PROS

  • Long Range
  • Strong Power to weight ratio
  • Very Practical & Foldable

CONS

  • Board deck somewhat narrow

1 week of Research paid off. I love it!
I've been a bike rider, walker most of my life because I'm bored in a car unless I'm going on an adventure. Got tired of biking to and fro, looked at electric bikes and scooters. Watched many YouTube videos on scooters, read articles everywhere, looked up specs, concentrated on negative reviews rather than positives, watched scooter "experts" on their YouTube stations etc.. long story short under $700 I was 95% going to buy the GoTrax G4 model period. Then I heard and saw the facial expression and smile and deep thought of one of the trustworthy experts get asked question on a live show between the G4 and the Horizen. That was the final piece I needed, that face he made. For the extra $200, this Fluid is worth it :). Oy problem I'm having is driver's in cars and onlookers I pass buy eyeballing my Horizen. I put it in a shopping cart and took it into Walmart with me and was being eyeballed by customers. Lol. That's the only downside - it's a great piece of machinery but watch out for those wanting to take it from you. Get a GPS tracker. Can't afford to lose a beautiful piece of machinery like that. I love the ride, power, the look and mine came delivered, greased and all. FluidFree put love into their product and I'm ecstatic what I got for $700. Enjoy Horizen Fluid riders..

If you're in search of a smaller, and very portable scooter you'll want a lightweight electric scooter. Dimensions, and especially the folded dimensions are important as well but the weight will most likely be the number one factor when looking at portability. We would recommend looking for an adult electric scooter that weighs less than 33 lbs (15 kg).

You would be excused if you mistook the fluid Mosquito for a regular kick scooter at a glance. And you would be equally excused dropping your jaw when it flies by you at 28 mph (45 kph)!

It is after all an ultra-portable, lightweight electric scooter that looks like it has no business being able to perform such max speed figures. It only weighs 29 lbs (13 kg).

Not only that, but it manages to be strong up 10% inclines and has a 22-mile (35 km) range if you can restrain your throttle finger and keep it steady at 15 mph (24 kph).

This is possible through a front-wheel drive 500W/700W peak power motor and a 48V 9.6Ah battery.

Two solid rubber tires mean you will never run the risk of flats and to make the ride a bit more tolerable the Mosquito manages to incorporate a dual spring suspension system and a roomy deck with plenty of space even for "bigfoot".

For stopping power it has a rear drum brake, rear fender step-on foot brake as well as a front regen throttle brake and it is all very effective. The regen brake can be adjusted to suit your riding style.

Even though this is a proper "pocket rocket" and the focus has been on producing the lightest possible yet relatively high-performing best electric scooter, it still manages a max weight of 265 lbs (120 kg).

Folding is super quick as well as easy with a foot-operated folding mechanism, and it even fits into the trunk of a relatively small car without too much fuzz.

The one option to choose from if you can accept a lower mile range, and a lower top speed but also at a lower price, would be the fluid Cityrider explained below.

PROS

  • Ultra light weight
  • Best in class ride quality
  • Very high top speed for its size

CONS

  • Braking distance can be long if going top speed

"Tiny Beast!"
"Bought this for my daughter at college, but wanted to put some miles on it to make sure everything was ok. I have another brand scooter and this outclassed it in almost every way. Lighter, easier operation, more torque and top speed. The smaller solid wheels don’t feel as “bike-like” as larger inflated wheels, but the suspension on this made sidewalk paths tolerable that were too jarring with fixed wheels. Once you get used to both brakes, stopping power is amazing. There’s a lot going on here in a small package that can be easily carried up a few flights of stairs."

Top Speed: 18 mphLights:  front and rear LEDDrive:  front wheel drive
Weight Limit:  220 lbs / 100 kgDisplay: Speedometer + App control Battery Position: Under Board

When looking for the overall best electric scooter for your inner city commute, and taking into account if it's foldable, offers a smooth ride, can hit a maximum speed of 18 mph (29 kph), has a mile range of minimum 10 miles (16 km) on a single charge, and only weighs 28.5 lbs (12.9 kg), the CITYRIDER is your choice.

Portability is the name of the game here with a very clever folding mechanism of the front stem backward, where it connects and snaps onto the rear mudguard and voila, you can carry it like a bag.

Honeycomb solid tires mean you will never run a flat. A bright display shows speed and allows for two options of riding mode. Sport or comfort, and it has cruise control.

Bright front and rear led taillights, as well as turn signals, are good safety features in traffic as well as at night time. It's got a lithium battery of 36V 10.4Ah and a 350 Watt motor. Brakes on the rear wheel by way of a drum brake and stepping on the rear fender as well as regen braking are sufficient enough for stopping power.

The weight limit is 265 lbs (120 kg).

Available on the scooter market at 399 USD it might be the commuter scooter you are looking for.

PROS

  • Turn signals
  • Clever Display

CONS

  • Handle bars does not fold

"Excellent commuter scooter!
The build quality and value for price is amazing. The fit and finish is too notch. I love the inclusion of built in turn signals. It is more stable than an Ninebot ES4, and super easy for first time riders to get comfortable. The speed controller is well tuner so you never feel the acceleration pull or have wheel spin. The lack of protection underneath the scooter is almost enough to remove a star, but this was never meant to drop off curbs, but to get you from A to B smoothly."

A brilliant option, if the Inokim Quick 4 felt out of price range, is the Inokim Light 2.

Another great commuter from Inokim that puts performance and portability first. A 350W rear hub motor reaches a maximum speed of 21 mph (34 kph) and a range of 15 to 20 miles (24 to 32 km).

At 30 lbs (13 kg) it is very lightweight but still has a max weight capacity of 220 lbs (100 kg). This is a suspensionless electric scooter but it does run on pneumatic tires. Dual drum braking system and built from high-quality materials it can be a workhorse day in and day out. Very portable and easy to carry, stow away, or put into the trunk of your car.

This is a very compact e-scooter. If you are very tall you might feel it is too compact. 6 feet (182 cm) is probably the tallest you should be to feel comfortable riding the Inokim Light 2.

PROS

  • Comfortable and Secure Ride
  • Beautiful Design & Color Options
  • Long range

CONS

  • Limited torque

"Great Lightweight Scooter
This scooter is excellent and compared to the other scooters we've had in its weight limit, it goes faster (21 instead of 15), screen is easily readable in sunlight, and the battery lasts a lot longer. Great scooter, plus even the handlebars fold up if you need it to fit in tighter spaces."

If you're looking for an electric scooter that can cover long range you'll want to look for scooters with larger batteries and with eco mode settings. A larger battery will of course improve the range but several aspects impact the range you get out of your electric scooter. Riding style, road conditions, and if you're using full power or eco mode will all impact battery life.

A pro tip if you want to conserve battery power and get extra range is to use the "kick-and-go" option. Kick and go means you have to manually kick off and once you're rolling you can begin to use the scooter and accelerate. Most electric scooters come with the option to turn off "kick and go", which if you're riding for fun is a sought-after feature but starting from zero does take a lot of power and drains the battery faster, which of course will reduce the overall range you get on a single charge.

If you want to get the best e-scooter at the best price, i.e. "the most scooter for your money", the Mantis is probably the best option. A fantastic, all-around e-scooter with great performance, high build quality, fantastic ride and handling, and still portable although not precisely lightweight with its 65 lbs (29 kg).

And it comes in two versions, the Base also called V2, and the V2 Pro which offers even more performance and a Minimotors display.

The base construction of them both is the same. Front and rear spring arm suspension, 10-inch pneumatic tires, a great braking system with dual disc brakes, cable-pulled hydraulic calipers on the base version, and fully hydraulic for the Pro.

The max speed is 40 mph (64 kph) and acceleration is quick enough to scare you. The base version has a 33-mile range (53 km) if you can stay in eco mode and the power comes from Dual 1000W/3000W peak power motors and a 60V 18.2Ah battery pack.

You can ride the Mantis V2 on dirt trails and bumpier surfaces and it is still a very comfortable ride. Looking for the best electric scooter you can get your hands on should include this on your shortlist.

PROS

  • Great for trails & suburban roads
  • Multiple gear settings
  • Great suspension

CONS

  • Handle bars does not fold

"The Perfect Adult Scooter" "Beautiful design, smooth handling, perfect suspension, faster than anything I’ve ever been on like this. Skip the cheaper ones and get this model with the better battery. You wan’t regret it. Absolutely the best design yet. I'm extremely pleased. The support team was also very attentive and helpful."

Since this is an article about the best electric scooters for adults, it might be interesting to know which scooter family sits at the top of the tree reigning supreme. And that would be the Wolf Warrior "clan" with its current four family members, and where the "mother and father" of all scooters is the Wolf King GT Pro which we cover further below.

All the "Wolfs" are powerful machines and the "step in" version is the Warrior X. It carries the same build construction and philosophy as its siblings but in a lighter less bulky version.

It weighs 79 lbs (36 kg) and you might think that's a bit heavy, but consider it is still 24 lbs (11 kg) lighter than its bigger sibling Warrior 11. All the Warriors have foldable stems but not handlebars.

The first thing that stands out is the motorcycle-style dual front stem with hydraulic shocks. Right there you know this is not your average inner-city commuter but rather something else.

There are two versions available where the difference is the size of the battery and sinewave controllers and choice of display. The "street" version has a 60V 21Ah battery with a 40-mile range (64 km) and the pro has a bigger 60V 28Ah battery pack that can deliver 52-mile (83 km) stretches.

Both have the same dual 1100W/3500W peak power motor good enough for 41/44 mph (66/71 kph) top speed respectively.

All Wolfs have a phenomenal and smooth ride quality. High ground clearance, 10 x 3-inch tubed pneumatic street tires on split rims for easy changes, front hydraulic and rear spring suspension, and handlebars a bit higher even than on the bigger brother Warrior 11 renders a superb riding experience.

As an option, off-road tires are available and the Warrior X is very much at home in that environment. In fact, they all look like something out of a Mad Max movie.

Add a great lights package, regen braking, and dual hydraulic brake systems and what you have is an extremely potent powerhouse that will fly up hills, cover long distances at high speed and soak up most of what you can throw at it.

PROS

  • Great power to weight ratio
  • Brilliant stability
  • Very comfortable ride

CONS

  • Side lights can be fragile

"fun all arounder"
"After trying out the Mosquito I realized the fun factor far outweighed the utility for me, so I traded up for the Wolf Warrior X. I wanted something that could handle some off road use, had decent range, and could haul a heavier (240 lbs) rider up moderate hills. This scooter is really fun to cruise around the trails and bike paths of the bay area. Kinda feels like a powered mountain bike. Instead of doing a scooter/bart commute I now do a scooter/ferry commute and definitely feel like it's boosted my quality of life. In eco/dual motor mode it has great range and doesn't go above 15mph which is perfect for commuting."

Some scooter brands stand out more than others as is the case with Inokim. One of the highest-quality scooters on the market with a unique design. All parts are custom-made and specifically designed for this scooter. No searching through the parts bin philosophy here.

For example, a single-sided swingarm allows for changing tires without having to remove the wheel. A very innovative, quiet, comfortable as well as adjustable suspension system.

It also has a good range and top speed. There are two versions available where the difference is the size of the battery and therefore the mile range for the Super version is slightly longer, reaching 33 miles (53 km). The top speed for both is 28 mph (45 kph) and the range for the Hero version is 22 miles (35 km).

They both have a rear 800W brushless hub motor with a 1300W peak power output. Much thought has gone into designing a thumb throttle that is not fatiguing to use over long distances. 10-inch air-filled tires are a good choice for a workhorse like this that will probably ride longer distances and demand comfort from its rider.

Acceleration is modest at first, but once it gets going it rapidly comes alive. Some prefer this smoother acceleration. Less of a jerking reaction getting off the line as some other electric scooters tend to do.

Front drum and rear disc brake as well as LED lights. For riding at night, an extra front LED light is recommended for better visibility. Inokim takes pride in their work and it shows and feels when you ride this scooter. One of the best long-range electric scooters for adults.

PROS

  • Adjustable suspension
  • Very comfortable ride
  • Reliable

CONS

  • Kick and go is always enabled

"Amazing Scooter amazing Customer Support.
The OX is by far the best scooter I’ve ever ridden. It’s like riding a mini tank- you don’t feel any bumps or bounce to much like I did with the wide wheel. It is truly an amazing experience which you can only understand once you ride it. The customer support is hands down A++"

Off-road scooters are favored by adrenaline junkies but you’ve probably found yourself trying out ever faster scooters as well.

This never stops until you’ve met the Wolf Warrior 11 and its competitors. The handling of a pure off-road scooter should be responsive enough to perform tricks. The frame needs to be thick and durable. A good amount of balance will keep riders stable as they reach high speeds on rough terrains. Overall, the scooter should be heavy-duty with fast acceleration.

Off-road electric scooters are now competing with dirt and quad bikes which puts them in a league of their own. Most electric scooters you see in the inner city will look like a regular kick scooter next to one of these. These scooters are bigger, heavier, and faster than what you’ll frequently see on the roads. If you want to find out all there is to know, check out our in-depth article on off-road electric scooters.

For fans of NAMI, there are also two versions available of their high-performing Burn E2 line. Now we are stepping into areas that are for more experienced electric scooter riders. These are top performers and the build and ride quality, range, acceleration as well as braking power will reflect this. As will the price. Don't go looking for this type of performance under "best budget electric scooter" headlines.

With dual 1000W/5000W peak power motors you can expect the thing to have some proper "get up and go". The acceleration is astonishing and zero to 25 mph (40 kph) takes just over 3 seconds.

The top speed is 45 mph (72 kph) and will be reached in about 8 seconds. Needless to say, it won't have any problems going up hills even if they are steep.

Thankfully, NAMI has made sure that all this speed can be halted effectively with fully hydraulic LOGAN 160 mm disc brakes, as well as an adjustable integrated electric brake. It has a big 72V 28Ah battery. This means a whopping 90-mile (145 km) range is possible.

A good thing then that the ride quality is one of the best such a vehicle can have partly due to the adjustable front & rear hydraulic coil-shock suspension that allows you to set up the rebound dampening to your liking as well as the choice of 11-inch air-filled tires.

The heat-treated welded tubular frame is also part of the reason why the whole scooter performs so well and stands out in build quality compared to many other electric scooters.

A large waterproof smart display is another standout feature. Easy to use and allows the rider to adjust various settings such as acceleration strength independently for each motor. It is portable although the handlebars don't fold and it weighs just under 100 lbs (45 kg) with a max weight of 330 lbs (150 kg).

This scooter is more suited for enthusiasts as there are so many setup options. The possibilities to customize your ride are so many that it might be overwhelming for the average daily user.

PROS

  • Phenomenal Performance
  • Awesome looks & Design
  • Best electric scooter ride quality

CONS

  • Can be awkward to fold

"Amazing"
"Growing up with a four wheeler and dirt bike gave me a bit of an adrenaline junky side. After moving into the city I missed that freedom but this scooter replaces that in spades! It takes some getting used to the weight and only time will tell on the durability of parts/battery etc... Mine did show up with brake rotors bent up pretty good. There's a few YouTube videos on how to straighten them yourself or you can just buy new ones. I did it DIY. Highly recommend for urban folks looking for an exciting toy that isn't a motorcycle. Handlebars are pretty wide too so combined with the weight be sure your living situation is conducive to getting bikes in and out. Automatic doors and elevators are almost a must. Hope this helps."

As explained above, the NAMI Burn E2 is not for beginners but rather for enthusiasts that expect a certain performance. And the E2 MAX takes it up a notch or two.

The same scooter with more of it. The same phenomenal smooth ride quality and set-up with front & rear hydraulic coil-shock suspension and those 11-inch air-filled tires.

But now the top speed is 60 mph (96 kph). This is possible due to dual 1500W/8400W peak power motors and 50A sinewave controllers and a bigger battery capacity with 72V 32Ah, although the range stays the same at 90 miles (145 km).

Four caliper pistons hydraulic disc brakes, waterproof motor connectors, and a wider handlebar are some other upgrades. Still a single-stem e-scooter, NAMI has cleverly added an adjustable steering dampener to avoid wobble at high speeds.

This is an all-terrain scooter that is as good as it gets when it comes to adult electric scooters.

"Best ride quality"
"Absolutely incredible scooter. The ride itself is second to none. I did a range test and I'm about 180lbs. I went 53 miles (some hills, frequent acceleration to 45mph, and on a paved road) I did about 53 miles and when I got back home, I still had 47 percent battery left. I've rode dualtrons, yume's, nanrobots etc. they all pale in comparison to the ride of the Nami. Worth every penny imo. You can tell this thing was crafted with a lot of love. Box was packaged well and 0 issues with the scooter upon arrival. I highly recommend buying a Nami. Fluid is awesome too! Thanks! Even the squirrel loves the Nami!"

Here we are. The top of the pyramid. Where the Wolf roams. Well almost since there is always a bigger brother calling himself King right? See below for more.

The Wolf GT Pro is designed to be a proper off-road alternative for scooter enthusiasts.

This is obvious when you see those motorcycle-grade hydraulic front shock absorbers and that double stem. Add to that self-repairing 11-inch off-road tires should you choose them, or go for optional road tires.

If you have never tried an e-scooter
(or even if you have) but not with this much power, it will scare the bejesus out of you and you can hurt yourself quicker than you can shout the first profanity that comes to mind when you realize you are in trouble.

The acceleration is almost ridiculous and it will spin the front wheel even on tarmac if you are not careful. Zero to 15 mph (24 kph) is reached in under two seconds!! And the top speed is 50 mph (80 kph).

Dual continuous 1200W motors will do that. Thank goodness there is a multitude of various riding modes including a turbo button, (that you don't have to use) to calm things down.

You can customize your driving mode since the front and rear motor power, as well as start torque, can be adjusted individually, and it does have a thumb throttle.

160 mm rotors and fully hydraulic brakes mean it stops from 15 mph (24 kph) to a complete standstill in only 9 feet (3 m). But don't try this without practicing your braking technique!!

And you can travel very far on the GT Pro, 60 miles (96 km).

This is a big boy weighing 115 lbs (52 kg) and it would be strange if it didn't, considering the sturdy build and 60V 35Ah big battery pack. But you can still fold the stem.

The lights package is probably the best of all e-scooters. Double front LED headlights to light up the night properly and front/rear turn signals, as well as side and rear LEDs, make sure you will be seen.

This is an alternative to a motorcycle and should be treated with the same respect.

PROS

  • Extreme Power
  • Incredibly Stable at High Speeds
  • Fantastic Brakes

CONS

  • Big & Heavy

"Built like a tank, moves like a Tesla"
"This scooter is the most solidly built one I’ve used to date. Once you adjust the folding mechanism there is 0 wobble or stem flex. The scooter accelerates stupid fast, and you’ll get wheel spin. I am not personally a fan of the low handlebars, being 6’0”, but I can adjust that with a riser. Suspension is stiff but that might loosen up, but even that contributes to the solid feeling. I own a Nami which doesn’t even feel as well built as this. Headlights are super bright (one arrived no functioning fully but they’re sending a a replacement). Despite being the heaviest scooter out there it’s quite maneuverable (more than Nami), and sine wave controllers allow you to baby it especially on single motor. Cables can get in the way when turning but you can move them with the Velcro straps. The scooter took nearly two weeks to arrive but when it did, it was in one piece. I do wish the display remembered the settings every time you turn it on, and that it would load the screen faster. But the screen itself is very advanced and nice to have. These are very early impressions but so far I’m impressed."

And so we arrive at the King's door, or should we say launch pad. It seems some manufacturers of e-scooters have taken a leaf out of the sportscar industry and their "how to" manual. You have a top-of-the-line performer with impressive performance yet, you make another one, even faster and more powerful.

And so it is with the Wolf King. If everything you read above about the GT Pro was to your liking, except that you need it to be faster. Then keep reading. If not, well... keep scrolling.

The King has dual 2000W/7200W peak power motors and a 72V 35Ah battery just to make sure there is enough juice even for the darest of them all. And the Sinewave controller is now at 50A whereas on the GT Pro, it is 40A.

This means that at the time of writing, it is the fastest production scooter for sale.

The top speed is an astonishing 62 mph (100 kph). Surely, you don't need more?

Let's not explain the acceleration in detail. It can set your hair on fire as you can imagine. And the range is also upped to 90 miles (144 km). Of course, it will be a bit heavier as well but only by 5 lbs which makes it hit the scale at 120 lbs (54 kg).

For some, this will be the ultimate experience and we suspect they will possess riding skills and bravery that some of us lack.

A good thing then is that there is this option for those riders. And it is not even the most expensive one on the market.

PROS

  • Fastest electric scooter
  • Incredibly high range
  • Fantastic stability at high speeds

CONS

  • Big & Heavy.. like really heavy

"With Great Power Comes... Well, Great Power."
"So this scooter has two main modes. Single engine and dual engine. I tried dual engine once. I was on West 4th Street in Manhattan at the time. I gingerly pressed the accelerator, and before I could blink, was in Boston Massachusetts, going over the Mass Avenue Bridge. Total travel time: .04 seconds. I'll be staying in single engine for a while. :)In other words, THIS SCOOTER IS OBSCENELY FAST. But my God, it's so much fun. Rugged, strong, great shocks, and very, very stable. It's a blast to ride.Be safe, treat it like a motorcycle, treat it with the respect something that can go this fast deserves. But enjoy it. In my opinion, there's not a cooler scooter on the market today."

The Inikom OXO is the bigger brother of the OX. It has the same phenomenal ride quality and awesome design but with more power and range as well as fully hydraulic disc brakes front and back.

Dual 1000W motors bring the top speed up to 40 mph (64 kph) and the bigger 60V 26Ah LG Li-ion battery is good for a realistic 36-mile (58 km) range.

At 74 lbs (33.5 kg) it is 13 lbs (5.8 kg) heavier than the OX but that is an offset that one is willing to live with easily. The adjustable front and rear suspension and 10 x 2.5-inch air-filled tires also mean that off-roading and other surfaces like gravel, trails, and bumps are taken care of easily.

Long distance, suited for other than tarmac and smooth surfaces, and the Inokim high-quality design and build philosophy, puts this one at the top three of any shortlist. Or so it should.

PROS

  • Adjustable suspension
  • Superior build & ride quality

This is not the smallest or lightest of scooters. It was never meant to be. This is because the motors, batteries, and frame in this scooter, are big and strong enough to allow it to perform as it does. This is not a commuting scooter, although it is silky smooth on the roads.

Dual 1200W motors with a peak power output of 5400W are part of this beast's package. This is good for a whopping 50 mph (80 kph) top speed. Dear lord. Did I hear someone ask about range? Who cares? This monster is not about traveling far from point A to B. But if you have to, and you can control yourself, ride economically in single motor mode, then it will take you 70 miles (112 km).

A giant front hydraulic fork and suspension with a rear spring arm will allow jumping and landing hard. Big 11-inch tubeless knobby tires for maximum grip. Front and rear hydraulic brakes, eABS (electronic anti-lock brake system), a big rubber-covered deck for great grip and place to land on, sorry, stand on.

It is a big one and weighs in at 101 lbs (45 kg). It has to be, in order to be strong enough. And it is. It looks massive and gives the impression that it knows its business.

PROS

  • Very Long Range & Great Speed
  • Peak power performance
  • Off road & street tires available

CONS

  • Not one you carry around

"I have owned 3 dirt bikes, 4 HD , 2 sport bikes , and a supermoto nothing electric. I’m hooked! John answered my preorder questions and Peter kept me updated after I ordered. Painless delivery via fedex. Easy setup , it’s mostly assembly and a nice little multi tool (included) can finish the job in a few minutes. I started slow eco single motor , but the first time you pull the trigger on turbo with both motors hold on ! Something about the Gs and only a slight whine from the motors , it will pull the corners of mouth to your ears."

That would sum up our impressions of the best electric scooters for adults in 2024.

Hopefully, when you test electric scooters for yourself there might be some info that can be useful and help you decide which one is best suited for you.

Below when have added some additional information that is good to know and keep in mind whenever searching for your best electric companion.

There are several aspects to look out for when finding the best electric scooters for adults.

If they are built by a trusted manufacturer, then this is a good sign. Going for a well-known brand is a smart idea. Cheap off-brand scooters might seem too good a deal to pass up, however, their components will most likely require more regular repair, maintenance, and new parts. The warranty might be an issue. The great thing about buying from a specialized retailer is that they stock parts and can repair your scooter as well as offer a full service.

As you can gain fast speeds quickly, it is essential to ensure you can stop.

There are some models with front or rear brakes only. Others with foot brakes, disc brakes, and/or a combination of front and rear brakes, electric, and regenerative brakes. Ensuring you have the correct braking system is important so you don't end up on the floor having gone over the handlebars.

It can be dangerous when you don’t marry the scooter to the purpose and task at hand. To be safe, we recommend mechanical brakes over purely electric brakes (or a combination thereof). The high-performance models have both front and rear disc brakes. We are not saying electric scooters are not safe at all, only that like any form of transport where you can gain speed, safety is key.

When it comes to frame and fork construction, it is better to go for thick steel tubes and plating. This will be heavier than thinner designs but tougher in the long run and it will be more resilient. Lighter alloys are more likely to bend or break from regular use.

There are so many adult versions of these electric scooters that people might not even realize they were first designed to be used by kids. Kids' electric scooters are recognizable due to their smaller size. However, there is a middle ground where specific models are suitable for adults and older children. This can make it tricky to know which ones are ideal for each age bracket.

Please note that there are weight restrictions for electric scooters, and this is to be able to get the most out of the motor. Therefore, a kids' electric scooter is likely to have a smaller motor and also a lower weight restriction.

When looking at buying an adult scooter for an older child, bear in mind the actual weight of the scooter. A bigger motor can often mean a heavy scooter that an adult may manage with ease, but a child may not. This design is due to the purpose of the scooter. Adults are more likely to use their scooters for commuting, compared to children just doing short distances for fun. Therefore the range of a kids' electric scooter is significantly less than that of an adult scooter.

Electric scooters can have either two or three wheels. The latter gives extra stability and is safer for kids. Adjustable handlebars are a feature on commuter or lightweight scooters. They need to be set between the rider's stomach and chest to allow for appropriate visibility. However, for off-road scooters and faster models, fixed handlebars are preferred to provide more stability.

Generally, kids' electric scooters have a much weaker performance compared to adult scooters. They may also require inefficiently long charging times. However, one of the main reasons why children like them are their looks. The aesthetic style of these scooters is often their most significant selling factor. This is because kids are sometimes more concerned with how they look when riding, rather than how well their scooter performs. Who would've thought that kids were vain that way?

The best electric scooters for adults have a lot of upgrades available. Kits can be bought online which contains a variety of upgrade options. They are usually compatible with both scooters and bikes as the two share similar components. Motor and battery conversions are popular since they increase performance and power. Waterproofing is also useful as it keeps the frame, chain, and electric parts from rusting or failing.

Owners sometimes like to upgrade their tires for different-sized ones. However, this change can severely impact the overall rideability of the scooter. Getting advice from an experienced mechanic will help to prevent any issues that may arise from upgrades.

Several accessories have become popular recently. For example, people who use scooters while shopping, can attach a specialized clip to their handlebars. It keeps shopping bags securely in place.

It is recommended that commuters with foldable scooters get a bag to store them in. The best scooter bags will be easy to carry and able to protect them against the elements.

An ideal tool for deterring thieves or even someone mistaking your personal electric scooter for a rental one is a folding lock. These locks can be attached to various points on the frame to ensure peace of mind when locking your scooter anywhere. It sits tightly on your frame and there is no risk of rattling during your ride. These locks can resist up to 9 tons of hydraulic pressure whilst only weighing 1.6 lbs / 0.72 kg itself.

Click here to find out more about how the folding locks work.

We all know how truly unpredictable the weather can be and how quickly it can go from day to night and you're left thinking "when did it get so dark out?" That is why electric scooters usually have good front lights that can be utilized for this very occasion.

However, similar to when you’re driving a car, your headlights don’t always light up the road sufficiently and you need to switch to your full beams. For longer commutes in the dark, we recommend an additional headlight. They attach to your scooter onto the handlebars or verticle steering pole, whichever you prefer. When looking at additional headlights, ensure it is waterproof and will securely attach to your scooter without rattling or fear of detachment. There are lights with varying modes and varying battery times, click here to find out more about additional headlights.

For some people, the price of an electric scooter can be a turnoff. One option is to go for split payments, starting at 30 USD a month as this might even be cheaper than what one would spend on average when renting a scooter for commuting. We have a full guide on everything you need to know about electric scooter rentals - but keep reading if you're happy with a summary, we've listed the most important factors below.

For example, on a rental scooter doing a 15-minute commute to and from work, five days a week will set you back $53.50 per week. Taking into account an average of 5 weeks' holiday a year, you’re looking at an annual cost of $2,514.50, just commuting to work. In contrast, it will only cost a few hundred to buy a decent commuting scooter outright. Even the higher quality ones cost around $2,000. With finance payment options this can be even more affordable for working people than renting.

- 15 min commute = $53.50 per week = $2514.50 (47 weeks of the year)

You may think this is not a bad price to pay. However, two major rental companies have doubled their price per minute this year alone. The more popular electric scooters become, the more inclined these companies are to increase the price per minute further.

There are other factors that can affect your journey when planning your commute to work via a rental scooter. Firstly, you may not be able to find one as there are no specified collection/drop-off points. So you may have to walk for a while before finding one.

Secondly, once you have found one, it may have little or no charge left. Rental companies rely on people collecting dead scooters and charging them overnight. Not something that is guaranteed to happen.

Thirdly, the cost. As stated above, regularly commuting on a rental scooter can be an expensive business. However, it is important to say that we are not discouraging you from renting a scooter. They are perfect for short, impromptu occasional uses. We are talking in terms of daily commuting and regular use.

If you’re planning your commute to work on an adult electric scooter, financially and for the sake of reliability, we recommend purchasing a quality electric scooter of your own.

There are plenty of rental scooter establishments across the United States and beyond. Of course, the location will be a factor, not every city or town has rental scooters available. If the closest rental company is too far away, then this method will be irrelevant to you.

The rental scooter companies generally have zones where their electric scooters can operate which are often located in city centers. If you live just outside the city in a suburban area you might struggle to find one, and if you do take it outside a designated zone, they might charge you extra fees, or the motor may cut out and become disabled.

If you are considering renting a scooter, it is worth noting the zone you can drive in to avoid the fees and hassle of a disabled scooter.

However, it is ideal for those who do not plan to ride more than once every few months. Despite this, nothing beats a high-quality purchased scooter. There is no point in buying one outright if it is just going to be ridden a few times and then left to rust in a shed. Renting is also a good idea for people who have never tried scootering before to see if they find it to be an enjoyable experience. Then they can consider buying one of their own.

For regular riders and commuters, this method is not financially viable long-term. In addition, having one of their own will allow users to customize and upgrade as they like. This is important as customization is a crucial aspect of scooter ownership. Being able to tweak and refine both the performance and look of the ride, means that owners get to have their personalized method of transportation.

The best adult electric scooters are the ones that have been upgraded with a personal touch.

There are undoubtedly several vital things to consider when deciding to go for either an e-bike or an electric scooter. An e-bike has the same basic functions as a regular bike, only with added assistance when pedaling, especially to help get up an incline. Aside from this, it is very similar to an ordinary bike.

The cost will be a significant factor. Electric scooters are significantly cheaper than bikes. While electric scooters for adults range significantly from 600 to 3100 USD, a good e-bike is likely to cost from 1500 USD.

E-bikes can be much pricier. Also, electric scooters tend to give better value although the overall running costs for both are about the same.

When comparing an electric scooter to an e-bike, it is important to note that they are equally environmentally friendly. However, in terms of safety, electric scooters have better built-in lights including brake lights, which are add-ons for bikes and rely on the rider to prioritize installing lights on the electric bike.

The motors for both are relatively quiet and do not contribute to noise pollution and there is no significant difference in charging times. However, if, when riding the electric bike the battery dies, it is easier to continue to the destination than if the battery dies on the electric scooter.

Depending on how you use your personal electric scooter they can be less vulnerable to theft. Primarily, they are easy to bring with you and store in a secure place rather than left outside with the bikes.

An electric scooter is a convenient and fun way to get around. But is it legal? And where can you safely ride it? Is the bike lane ok? Well, the laws on electric scooters vary from country to country, state to state, and even city to city.

Electric scooter riders must follow their local and national laws. In several areas, e-scooters are even classified as road motors. That means they need to be licensed and insured.

The police can sometimes confuse electric scooters for mopeds or even motorbikes, depending on their shape and size. Owners should be aware of this when taking their electric scooters out on the road. Riders who disregard road and curb laws are a hazard for both pedestrians and cars and following signs and signals is essential.

Before purchasing an electric scooter, readers should know where they can and can't ride. Doing a bit of research on the local area will reduce any potential trouble later.

The United States

When it comes to the US, electric scooters are generally governed by the same federal law that regulates electric bikes. As long as electric bikes do not exceed the speed limit (20 mph/32 kph) and have a max motor capcity of 750W they are not considered motor powered. However, electric scooter laws may vary from one state or city to another, and with the industry rapidly evolving, we will see changes frequently concerning electric scooters.

Make sure to stay up to date on any new laws and changes.

Find out more directly from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Or read more about the Congress bill concerning regulation of electric bikes

When looking for some of the best adult electric scooters, most people tend to focus on performance and aesthetics. However, weight limits are also an essential factor to get the most out of the motor. There is only so much rider weight it can take before its systems begin to struggle. The manufacturer will state the weight limit of their e-scooters clearly.

Users should take their own rider weight into account.

If a scooter cannot support them, then it is not worth purchasing. The weight of any baggage carried around on the scooter will also need to be assessed. It is certainly never a good idea to push too close to weight limits, as it will cause the scooter to require more regular maintenance. Usually, the more expensive scooters will have a higher limit.

It is worth investing a little more if this aspect is a big issue. The main downside is that the scooter itself may be more cumbersome.

Example of weight limits for Fluid freeride Scooters

- WideWheel Pro: 220 lbs / 100 kg
- Horizon: 265 lbs / 120 kg
- Mantis: 265 lbs / 120 kg
- Wolf King GT Pro 11: 330 lbs / 150 kg
- Nami Burn E 2 Max: 265 lbs / 120 kg

In recent years there has been an increase in the popularity of foldable, portable scooters. In fact, some of the best adult electric scooters have a folding capability. The main advantage of this system is that once folded, the electric scooter will be much more portable. It can be carried on trains and buses, easily stored in a car trunk for that "last mile solution" making it the perfect choice for commuters.

These electric scooters follow in the footsteps of folding bikes which have seen a recent surge in sales. The problem with many folding bikes is that they can still be cumbersome. In comparison, a decent folding scooter can weigh less than 22 lbs (10 kg).

Even accounting for the battery weight, they are still the popular choice. The portability and practicality of a good electric scooter cannot be understated. The best electric scooters for adults of this type can fold and unfold in a matter of seconds and fit into tight spaces, such as under desks or luggage compartments. It should come as no surprise that they are favored by people traveling for work and school.

It is worth noting, as previously mentioned, to weigh up the weight and portability with the performance of the electric scooter. There is a significant trade-off between portability/weight and power/performance. A scooter that climbs all types of hills and weighs under 30 lbs (13 kg) simply does not exist.

Therefore the need to ensure you purchase the best overall electric scooter for your specific needs will allow you to get the most out of it.
